Increasing food production is not only a food security issue but will enable farmers to move from subsistence farming into commercial enterprises. But farmers must have the knowledge and resources to sell their goods on the open market. Several systemic shortfalls have prevented farmers from enjoying wide access to markets to sell their goods. Currently only 30 percent of farmer output is actually marketed. Increasing these numbers is dependent on improvements in other sectors that lead to higher crop production.

To this end, the ATA is working to help farmers increase their crop yields and will explore public, private, and alternative systems that effectively link small-scale farmers to the Ethiopian Commodities Exchange (ECX).
